Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Autumn McClintock

when you die and I am still young
I’ll go out on some raft

all the birds we’ve studied
have plastic in them

those whale lovers
become drastic

one who scrapes the ocean
they make foggy shampoo bottles

from reclaimed bits
one scientist pleads

let’s work with what’s already on the planet
we are on the goddamn planet

when you are dead
i’ll remember styrofoam

we failed to cradle
like this gull like

no child ever
